My Philosophy

A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO DRUMS

I take a unique approach to teaching drums. As a highly physical instrument, I view drumming through the lens of movement science and physical therapy.

Just as athletes learn efficient body mechanics, drummers must understand how to optimize their movements to achieve optimal performance. This foundation makes everything else possible.

What You'll Learn

snare and cymbals

HANDS

We'll focus on hand speed, endurance, comfort, confidence, and mobility – the foundation of movement on the kit. Various rudiments will become tools for understanding the efficient movement of hands, fingers, and joints.

FEET

Our feet are used just as much as our arms, but are often overlooked because they are hidden. We'll focus on utilizing the hinges in both ankles and knees to develop speed and comfort with the other half of your drumming body.

INDEPENDENCE

In drumming, we have five "brains" – our head, left hand, right hand, left foot, and right foot. We'll train them to make decisions independently while working together as a team. It's the most challenging aspect of drumming, but also the most rewarding.

MOBILITY

This is about learning efficient movement throughout the kit. We'll focus on how humans naturally move and develop comfort in those movements to better express what your brain wants to play.

CREATIVITY

Creativity drives us to keep playing. Technical skills are meaningless without the creativity to utilize them effectively. We'll discover what it means to be creative and truly musical through the joy of simply playing.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK

Think epic compositions, complex arrangements, and the stamina to play 20-minute songs without losing the groove. Progressive rock drumming requires serious versatility, you might go from delicate passages to thunderous sections within the same song. We'll build the endurance and musical understanding to handle whatever the music throws at you

Progressive Metal

Progressive metal demands serious strength and coordination, but it's not just about playing fast and loud. We'll build up your double bass technique and work on those intricate patterns while keeping the groove alive. What separates great metal drummers from the rest is musicality, and that's what we'll focus on.

Acoustic / Quiet Drumming

Sometimes the most powerful playing is the quietest. Whether you're playing in coffee shops or intimate venues, acoustic drumming is all about nuance and feel. We'll work with brushes, develop your ghost note vocabulary, and learn how to create those magical quiet moments that audiences remember long after the show.

Progressive Jazz

If you love the challenge of odd time signatures and complex rhythms, progressive jazz is where things get really interesting. We'll dive deep into the rich traditions of jazz drumming while exploring how modern players are pushing those boundaries. You'll learn to navigate tricky musical territory with both the chops and the sensitivity that make jazz drumming so rewarding.

Hip-HOP

Hip-hop is all about the pocket. It's that tight, punchy feel that makes people move, and it's harder to master than most people think. We'll work on programming beats, dive into sampling culture, and develop the kind of precise, locked-in playing that works perfectly in modern production. The groove is everything here.

Why I Teach

When you love something as deeply as I love music, it becomes your entire focus. It's what gets me out of bed every morning—the opportunity to discover life's beauty through sound.

I quickly learned that teaching is even more fulfilling than playing. There's no greater joy than seeing a student's face light up with understanding. I've dedicated my life to making and teaching music, hoping to witness those smiles every day.
